The Isle of Rum is a really interesting place both for the natural scenery and the history. In the Victorian era, the entire island was the private hunting estate of a wealthy English industrialist who built an ostentatious palace to be his hunting lodge. It was pimped out with all of the latest fancy things and was ridiculously over the top but completely awesome. Fortunately, it has been preserved and is now available for tours. The local fellow that ran the tour was a great storyteller. I highly recommend it.
The island is very rugged and mountainous and has great hiking. I didn’t follow a particular route but just wandered on the ridges and summits. There are great views to the nearby island of Eigg and the Isle of Skye.
