Panorama Ridge – Garibaldi Lake

Panorama Ridge is aptly named and has one of the best views in southwest BC. Strong hikers could do it as a day hike but I recommend doing it as an overnight trip and also adding a side trip to Black Tusk (2-3 days). Due to its close proximity to Vancouver, easy access and a relatively short and easy trail to Garibaldi Lake, this trail is extremely popular. To avoid the crowds, it’s best to go mid-week or go in September or early October.

It’s about a 2 hour hike to Garibaldi Lake campground which is a gorgeous location right on the lakeshore with views of the surrounding mountains and glaciers. It has an enclosed shelter for cooking, a bear cache (wires) and pit toilets. If it’s full or the trail seems busy, it is probably best to go directly to Taylor Meadows campground and use it as a base to hike to Panorama Ridge and Black Tusk. Located in a meadow surrounded by trees, it has no views but is a comfortable campground with an enclosed shelter for cooking, a bear cache (wires) and pit toilets. Both sites have fees.
