7 Lakes Basin, Olympic National Park, Washington

In early September 2015, hiked the High Divide Loop / 7 Lakes Basin hike in Olympic National Park. The trail starts in old growth forest along the Sol Duc River and soon reaches the Sol Duc Waterfalls before climbing steadily up to Deer Lake. From there I continued upwards to a ridge with a nice view of Mt Olympus and overlooking the 7 Lakes Basin (more like 70 Lakes Basin), where I camped. The next day I crossed the basin, regained the ridge and then dropped down through some meadows back into the rainforest and followed the river back to the trailhead.

It’s a great hike with lots of variety. It was a bit rushed in 2 days, so I recommend taking a 3rd day to relax in the basin.
